 American Dietetics Association Evidence Analysis Library®  

One of the many benefits of your membership in The American Dietetic Association is the access to the ADA Evidence Analysis Library®.  Living Well With Kidney Disease: A Handbook for Patients and Their Families  

The first edition of Living Well with Kidney Disease, previously titled When Your Kidneys Fail, was developed and published by the National Kidney Foundation of Southern California to provide information for people with kidney disease. Among the topics covered are the principles of kidney function, methods of treatment, and financial resources available to patients. The question and answer format, written in non-technical language, is designed to facilitate easy-reading. The handbook will help meet the educational needs of the growing population of people afflicted with kidney failure.  Renal Support Network (RSN)

The Renal Support Network (RSN) is a nonprofit, patient-focused, patient-run organization that provides non-medical services to those affected by chronic kidney disease (CKD). RSN strives to help patients develop their personal coping skills, special talents, and employability by educating and empowering them (and their family members) to take control of the course and management of the disease.  Toolkit for Healthcare Professionals: Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage

Downloadable educational materials specifically for physicians and other healthcare professionals and their staff to learn the basics about Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage. It also includes materials to distribute to their Medicare patients. RenalRD is a listserv primarily for those with an interest in renal nutrition. It currently has subscribers from the U.S., Canada and other locations. Like Renalpro, it is unmoderated and is sponsored by the University of Alberta.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) today reported significant progress in improving care for patients with kidney disease, exceeding the Nation’s Healthy People 2010 goal for vascular access for kidney disease 5 years ahead of schedule. View the entire press release. (March, 2006)

Medicare Announces New Anemia Management Strategy for Dialysis Patients
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) detail a national strategy for monitoring claims for the drugs epoetin alfa (Epogen®) and darbepoetin alfa (Aranesp®) for anemia management in patients with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) and who are dialyzed in renal facilities.
