Cathy Goeddeke-Merickel, MS, RD, LDCathy M. Goeddeke-Merickel, MS, RD, LD

Catherine M. Goeddeke-Merickel, MS, RD, LD is a Nephrology Dietitian and an Independent Clinical Consultant. She has both clinical and research experience in diabetes, obesity and all phases of chronic kidney disease from acute kidney injury to transplant. She is also a member of the Joint ADA-RPG and NKF-CRN Committee developing the Standards of Practice and Standards of Professional Performance for dietitians practicing in Nephrology Care. Cathy has authored peer-reviewed journal articles, numerous book chapters and been an invited speaker on a variety of topics including chronic kidney disease, botanical medicine, diabetes, obesity/weight management, low literacy education, vitamin/mineral metabolism, and nutrition/wellness. In addition, she has been a regular contributor for professional clinical education modules and patient education materials. She enjoys doing anything outdoors!

Aimee ZaicAimee Zajc, RD, LD, CNSD
Managing Editor, Renal Nutrition Forum

Aimee has been a dietitian for the past 6 years, with a degree in Nutritional Sciences from the University of New Hampshire. She has been practicing as a renal dietitian for about 1 year. Prior to that, she had extensive experience in nutrition support in a multidisciplinary clinical setting. She has given numerous presentations on nutrition support to interns, physicians, and dietitians. Since her internship, she has always had an interest in renal nutrition. She has found working with dialysis patients in the outpatient setting to be very challenging and rewarding. She is looking forward to becoming more involved with the RPG and ADA.

Lynn MunsonRachael R Majorowicz, RD, LD
Editor, Renal Nutrition Forum

Rachael has worked at Mayo Clinic outpatient hemodialysis for the past 5 years providing patient care, creating educational materials, and providing nutrition education for medical students, nephrology fellows, nurses, and dietetic interns.  She remains active in CRN-Minnesota as co-chair, planning numerous educational events for renal professionals and promoting patient programs.  Serving as Assistant Editor for the Renal Nutrition Forum will allow her to further serve her fellow renal educators.

Marianne Hutton, RD, CDE, CSR
Advertising Editor, Renal Nutrition Forum

As a lecturer, author, and consultant, Marianne specializes in diabetes, renal nutrition, and lifestyle improvement. She recently co-authored a book, Kidney Friendly Comfort Foods with Katie Lee Joel. Marianne is a member of the American Dietetic Association’s (ADA) Diabetes Care & Education Practice Group, Nutrition Entrepreneurs Practice Group, and Renal Practice Group (she is the advertising editor of the Renal Nutrition Forum, peer-reviewed professional publication). She is also a member of the Council on Renal Nutrition, and the American Association of Diabetes Educators. She is co-chairing the program planning committee of the National Kidney Foundation’s Council on Renal Nutrition 2009 Spring Clinical Program Track.

Susan works on the Practice Team at ADA in Chicago, IL. My role at ADA is to promote and assist in coordinating activities of five dietetic practice groups. My previous positions included clinical nutrition, nutrition education and nutrition marketing.

Joanne Cooke, MS, RD, CSR
Nominating Chair

Joanne is a renal dietitian, who discovered her renal niche after becoming an RD in 1983. Her moves during her husband’s “corporate shuffle” provided her with a variety of experiences including teaching nutrition and science, and clinical positions. During the 7 years she worked as a clinical dietitian at Rush Copley Hospital in Aurora IL, her work with acute renal patients ignited an interest in the field. Joanne has been fortunate to have excellent mentors as she learned about the field of nephrology. Her volunteer background includes President of Central Iowa District Dietetics Assoc; Journal of Renal Nutrition editorial review panel; author of articles: ”Encouraging Potential PD Patients”, ikidney.com; “Herbal Supplement Use in Hemodialysis”, resource, Journal of Renal Nutrition; "The Challenge of Change", NKF Family Focus; “Practical Use of Sports Nutrition Bars for Protein Supplementation” Network 12 poster presentation. Joanne enjoys creative approaches to patient education and appreciates the opportunity to help others find their own niche in the field of nutrition.

Mary KayMary Kay Hensley
Nominating Member

Mary Kay Hensley, MS, RD, CSR has provided renal nutrition therapy since 1968, first in Nebraska and then in Indiana. She currently is employed by Davita, Inc. in Gary, Indiana. A long time volunteer of the National Kidney Foundation, she has served as the CRN Chairperson and has filled many other positions within National CRN. She was instrumental in starting the Journal of Renal Nutrition during her tenure and served on its first editorial board. She serves on the Board of Directors of the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana and is a past-President. She is an active member of the International Congress of Renal Nutrition and Metabolism and has traveled to many countries to educate about renal nutrition and dietetic practice. Mary Kay has served on the ADA Specialty Practice Committee and has been a member of the work group to develop the Renal Specialty Certification exam. She just presented a paper on African cooking and the renal diet at the Spring Clinical Meeting and has a book chapter on the History of Renal Nutrition in press.
